18 New Travel Destinations For 2018 – Part 1
The end of 2017 is just a few weeks away and we cannot stop wondering how did the last 12 months go by so quickly?! However, instead of wasting time on searching an answer of what cannot be answered (we tried to find this answer last year already… and the year before… and the year before the year before, however, we never manage to explain why the time is passing by so quickly!), we have decided to make our New Year’s resolutions a bit earlier this year and have a quick look at all the events, emotions and feelings that 2017 is soaking into.
We recommend you do the same thing, it’s a wonderful exercise for the mind and heart and gives you one last chance to enjoy everything amazing that happened throughout the past year before putting all the collection of memories in a trinket box and putting it away in the deepest of your mind. To be honest, and we are sure that the same will apply to you too, one of the best highlights of the year are all wrapped around travel memories. It does not have to be an exotic and rural destination, sometimes a short trip to the closest time is enough to warm up the heart in these cold days. Inspired by past journeys and pleasant travel moments, we decided to write down our travel ideas for 2018… and here is what we have managed to come up with! Make sure to use our travel inspiration for your future travel plans in the upcoming year too!
Newcastle, England
In fact, we don’t need to look for words of inspiration, when talking about a journey to one of the many beautiful British cities, Newcastle included. Facts are facts and you cannot beat them, and while all of the recent studies show that the UK is turning out to be one of the most popular travel destination (always included in top 10 around the world) with thousands of tourists visiting England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland every year, we understand pretty well what is hiding behind all the attractiveness and why England resonates so much with people from all walks of life. Historical, cultural and natural beauty that even the grumpy weather cannot make seem less wonderful and mesmerising! While Liverpool and Manchester are the traditional tourists’ spots in the Northern England area, Newcastle has the full potential to turn into the new hot spot of 2018! Why visit the city in 2018 exactly? Next summer Newcastle is going to host the Great Exhibition of the North and tell the story of the Northern England region in a beautiful way.
Civil Rights Trail, USA
The past year made us think more and more about the world surrounding us, as well as for human relationships and how our history and future build. Naturally, all this retrospection will make you want to visit a bit more special place than your usual tourist destination and here is where the idea of the Civil Rights Trail in the USA comes to mind. Certainly not one of the tourist journeys the USA are famous for, however a great way to learn more about the past of today’s America and the past of the world in general. The 50th Anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr’s assassination will be marked in April 2018 and this is a very important reason for you to plan a visit to the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis.
Malawi
Malawi is one of the top African destinations, expected to attract more and more tourists in the upcoming year with the great opportunities it offers for safari tourism and more adventures. Malawi is known as the “warm heart of Africa”, but not only because of the toasty hot weather there but mainly because of the friendliness, caring attitude and hospitality of the locals. In addition, three of Malawi’s reserves – Majete, Liwonde and Nkhotakota – are now run under the guide of African Parks’ organisation, which means that these areas and their wildlife will be effectively regenerated in the upcoming year. With its lush green hills and riverine landscapes, Majete is attracting lovers of nature from all corners of the world, also housing the big five – elephants, lions, rhinos, leopards and buffalos. In the past year, Liwonde also became a home to cheetah and lion and this marked the comeback of nature’s balance in the beautiful luscious reserve. Becoming famous because of the world’s biggest ever translocation of elephants, Nkhotakota is now the new home of 500 happy giants.
Valetta, Malta
A handful of renovation and regeneration projects are going to completely beautify the already wonderful city of Valetta in the upcoming year to celebrate the new status of the city of a European Capital of Culture in 2018. What better time to visit Europe’s sunniest city than the upcoming year, right? Make sure to do so and you will be able to enjoy the newly remodelled city gate and the striking new parliament building. If you are into diving into the historical parts of the city, here are some good news for you, because until the start of the warm season of 2018, the majority of the abandoned churches and historical sights in Valetta will be completely renovated. People say that Valetta is already looking better than ever and we are sure that this is a complete truth!
Wales
Back to the mesmerising beauty of the UK, Wales is always deserving a visit a year, but in 2018 we promise you that this visit will be more special. Mainly because of The Wales Way, which is the newly introduced trio of action-packed biking, hiking and driving routes that allow you to enjoy the magical beauty, rugged coastline, dramatically sited castles and lush valleys of Wales. The Cambrian Way, The Coastal Way and The North Wales Way showcase a wonderfully diverse range of attractions and must-sees, so do not hesitate and pack your bags for a quick trip to Wales.
Cuba
In fact, Cuba is a long-loved tourism destination with all its passionate and romantic atmosphere, cultural quirkiness, amazing food and friendly locals, and the country will remain attracting many tourists in the upcoming 2018 too. Do you need more reasons to visit the country now and don’t leave it for better times and better years? Two years ago political experts started alarming that the relationships between Washington and Havana can lead to an invasion of American tourists in the country, which will probably change its authentic atmosphere forever, so if you still want to enjoy the authenticity and original atmosphere of the country, make sure to book your tickets for 2018.
Russia
It is surprising that the powerful and magnificent country of Russia is not a part of the majority of travel destination top rankings, but we hope that this will change dramatically in the upcoming 2018, because the country has an enormous amount of beauty and quirkiness to offer in a cultural, historical sense, diverse nature, friendly locals and exciting cuisine. While Russia is often described as enigmatic, mysterious and the ultimate matryoshka doll of political intrigue and scandal, the continent-sized country is certainly a source of plenty of adventures. Summer 2018 is the best time to visit Russia in case you are an enthusiastic football fan because FIFA World Cup is going to take place in eleven Russian cities.
New Orleans, USA
In case visiting New Orleans is a part of your bucket list, make sure to pack your bags, book a ticket and visit the amazingly beautiful, soaked in rich culture and historic city of New Orleans in 2018. If you are wondering which is the perfect time to be in the city, we highly recommend you the annual parade Mardi Gras bash, when you will be able to enjoy festive parades with themed floats representing the 300-year history of New Orleans, art and cultural exhibitions, breath-taking fireworks show following the New Orleans Jazz Fest and so much more!
Chile
Chile has always been attracting tourists and travellers that are dedicated to exploring new adventures and exciting events, but 2018 will place Chile on the top of all adventurous ratings, mostly because of the launching of the newly created Route of Parks. Route of Parks is actually a long stretch of Patagonian national parks, starting from Puerto Montt and with Tierra del Fuego at the end. You will be able to enjoy this wonderful new adventurous journey that makes all the remotes, but breath-taking corners of the country accessible.
